Humans and other biologically identical creatures they say are different in many ways, however the biggest difference is the ‘human’ emotion. Though it has made us a superior being and master of this planet, there’s something amiss.

Love, betrayal, faith, expectations, hate, anger, revenge, pain within.. it’s ironic how a particular emotion can work to construct something or just wash away a person down the drain. The first one itself – when one has it, it acts as one’s strength. When someone pulls the ‘love plug’ away, it acts as Kryptonite. Same works for other emotions too.. come to think of it – aren’t most of our actions most times based one either or a some mix of these?

At work, we do tend to hit the ’send’ button almost before composing our thoughts in the mail body – particularly to an email which may tend to make us mad. I’m guilty of this crime and realize later that letting it cool off would have helped and maybe made us respond rather than react. One of the first lessons for a people manager – Appreciate in public & reprimand in private.. How often do we remember this? I’m guilty of loosing my cool few times myself.. only to regret later and realize that if I would have ‘thought’ what I’m going to do – I may have not done it at all!

In life, loss of a dear one brings sorrow and remorse but also a feeling of helplessness, at times depression and silo. Someone walks off from your life you feel pain, betrayal, lonely and what not – may even trigger more love or a feeling of revenge too. Why? Because you still know the person is alive and hence want him/her back. Is it truly love we aspire to ‘get back’? Or just our stubbornness to not move on and get what was ‘taken’ from us? Kinda weird if you think of it.

Matters of the heart we say are much tougher to sort than those of the mind. I inference with all this wisdom I’m trying to show off – the mind most times is weaker than the heart. Most wins in life come when you do what you ‘feel’ is right but make your mind take the final decision. It’s when the heart plays devil, we go wrong.

No master of the mind I am but learning slowly, very slowly. The mind game – all about how we condition ourselves to any situation – be if our workplace or life.

Few people who inspire me to write this article range from those alive to those not. They say something very common – it’s all in the mind..

Buddha -

“One of the hardest lessons in life is letting go.

Whether it’s guilt, anger, love, loss or betrayal. Change is never easy.

We fight to hold on and we fight to let go.”

Mother Teresa -

“People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway. If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.

If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway. The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.

For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.”

Major HPS Ahluwalia -

“Life is all about conquering the other summit – the Summit of the Mind.

As I look back at life, it is nothing but power of the mind that matters the most. Each man carries within himself his own mountain, with its own cliffs, crevasses – fearful, sheer, unfathomed, which he must climb to attain a fuller knowledge of himself.

The physical act of climbing a mountain has a kinship with the ascent of that inward spiritual mountain which every man has to climb sometime or the other.”

Keep thinking..

Anupam
